Victoria’s Secret, the world’s leading retailer of sexy fashion-inspired clothing, lingerie, bras and intimates, took many by surprise when the brand announced Darren Barnet as its newest brand ambassador.
The ad made the ‘Never Have I Ever’ star the company’s first male brand ambassador. All of the previous ambassadors were women, reinforcing the suspicion that Darren’s selection was not by accident.
Victoria’s Secret leaves no stone unturned as it prepares to launch its Pink line of “genderless” clothing. In recent years, the company has shown a willingness to expand its genderless offerings and so having Darren Barnet as a brand ambassador would help spread the word.
Amy Hauk, CEO of the Victoria’s Secret and Pink brands, announced that the company was excited about the partnership and emphasized Darren’s position as a “positive role model” for teens.
Victoria’s Secret sees Darren as a perfect role model for its awareness campaign on critical issues like mental health. The actor has always been outspoken about addressing mental health and empowering young people, which is exactly what Victoria’s Secret plans to accomplish.
Excited for their new partnership, Darren took to Instagram to share the news. Although he was humbled by the opportunity to share some of the new styles, he said the most important part of his new role is advocacy for mental health causes. In Darren’s own words: “My hope is that we can reach those young adults who most need to be heard and supported.”
