One of the most common injuries in the modern world is low back pain. More than 80% of people say they have experienced low back pain at some point in their lives. This injury can range from mild to incredibly painful and can range in duration from a couple of days to years. While the underlying causes are different and each cause needs to be treated differently, a number of remedies have proven popular for most cases.
The first solution to stop the development of the lower back is to plan it. If you’re sitting at a desk, you’re already a likely target for lower back pain. Make sure you are seated at your desk properly. There are plenty of tutorials online on how to set up your desk ergonomically, but the basic approach is to make sure your legs are bent at a 90-degree angle, your feet are on the floor (or on a stool if you’re a bit more bass) . You want to make sure that your gaze is below 90 degrees and that your elbows and lower back are supported. While many office chairs don’t offer lower back support, you can usually purchase a lumbar support and attach it to your chair at little cost (your office will often foot the bill, too). You should also stand up and take a short walk every thirty minutes.
However, for most of us that will not be enough. There are so many causes of lower back pain that at some point in your life you are likely to encounter it.. Studies increasingly show that exercising the mind and body is the best way to approach it. Mind-body exercises are forms of exercise that work the body but also benefit the mind. Yoga and Tai Chi are two famous examples, but if you can practice mindfulness during a run or gym session, they could work well too.
Yoga is ideal for combating lower back pain for several reasons. There is a wide variety of yoga classes available, so there is something for every fitness level and goal.. If the stress and anxiety of your everyday life is one of the main causes of your stress, then a relaxing yoga class is a fantastic cure. If you’re sitting in an awkward position all day (for example, architects and tattoo artists), then a more intense yoga class will untangle any knots that have developed. Tai chi is so helpful because it’s an incredibly relaxing way to get your body moving and practice a mindful mind. Studies increasingly show that the mind and body are closely linked. A happy body leads to a happy mind and vice versa.
Running can also be an excellent remedy for back pain as long as you stretch well beforehand. Tight hamstrings and glutes can cause back pain, so if you don’t stretch properly, you can add new aspects to your lower back problems.
While surgery and physio visits can also help, these should not be your preferred solution. Before trying any recovery method, you should consult with a professional to see if it is right for you.. However, you should try a program to get your body in order before resorting to something more radical.
Back pain is a rare injury because it affects those who exercise a lot and those who lose weight. It affects those who sit all day and those who have a more active work life. In short, back pain is not picky and will affect most of us in our lives. Start exercising and sit properly to make sure you are in a good position to defend yourself.
